What is a database?

A database is a large collection of information.  Montclair High School pays for subscription databases that students have total access from school or home; click on the link here to access them: http://www.mohigh.com/databases.html
(Be sure you have the usernames and passwords given by your teacher or helpful librarians.) 

What is a source citation?

When you find the database, website, article, book, encyclopedia, documentary, or any other source of information that is valuable to your class project, you must find and write down the source citation in MLA format.  If you do not, you are in danger of commiting a crime: plagiarism!

How do I write a note card?

1. Write a heading at the top of each note card.  (For example: Angelou's Childhood)
2. Write only one main point on a note card.
3. Only write information directly related to your focus questions.
4. Write only essential words; abbreviate when possible.
5. Be accurate: double check "direct quotes" and statistics. 
6. When you take another's word-for-word, place quotation marks around them and include the person's name.
7. Bracket your own words [ ] when you add them into a quote. 
8. Use ellipsis (...) where you leave out words from a quote.
9. Distinguish between 'fact' and 'opinion.'
10. Include the source's letter code on the card.
11. Write the page number of where you find the info., if applicable.
12. Use the word 'over' to indicate information on the back of the card.
